From Ideas to Action: Kickoff Meeting for the Lorelay project.


From Ideas to Action: On February 14 & 15, 2023, the kickoff meeting for the project “Lorelay – Rauscharme Laser für Quantenschlüsselaustausch mit kontinuierlichen Variablen“ took place at Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI in Berlin.

The project is part of the QuNET initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). This initiative aims to research high-security communication systems based on quantum technology. The Lorelay project will advance low-noise lasers for Continuous-Variable Quantum-Key-Distribution (CV-QKD) Systems for the generation of cryptographic keys utilizing coherent light and quantum physics. With this technology, a practicable and secure communication will be ensured in a variety of application areas.

Our colleagues Prof. Carlo Holly and Marvin Schossau attended the meeting as representatives of the Computational Optics group of our Chair for Technology of Optical Systems. At the meeting they were able to meet the project partners in person and participate in the planning process at this still early stage of the project. Particularly, Marvin Schossau was given the chance to present his first results on the simulation of electronic properties of low-noise semiconductor lasers.

We thank Fraunhofer HHI for the invitation to this first official meeting. We are thrilled to be working on this innovative project and are looking forward to the next steps of Lorelay!
