Education

  • 1974 till 1980: Study of Physics at the Technical University of Darmstadt
  • 1980: Diploma (Dipl.-Ing. Physics)
  • 1984: Doctorate in the field of “High-power CO2 lasers for industrial material processing” at the TH Darmstadt

Professional Career

  • 1980 till 1985: Research assistant at the TH Darmstadt
  • 1985: Head of the "Gas Lasers" department at the newly founded Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT in Aachen
  • Since 1993: Deputy executive director of the Fraunhofer ILT
  • Since April 2004: University lecturer and director of the newly founded Chair for Technology of Optical Systems (TOS) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the RWTH Aachen University
